“I had lost hope. Me and my 5 kids were staying in a small one bedroom apartment with my niece and had to leave with nowhere to go. We took up her whole living room floor. We were finally given the safety of shelter and now we're here in this home!" Family Promise Mom.
There is a housing crisis in West Michigan and this crisis is affecting real families. As we have written in the past, the need for available and affordable housing continues to be one of the largest factors for our homeless families. Since 2010 rent for a 2-bedroom apartment has more than double in cost. Today, a modest 2-bedroom apartment cost, on average, $1000 (rentjungle.com, 2017). Our families are working hard, they are resilient and dedicated, but no matter how hard they try the math doesn’t add up. West Michigan families are falling into homelessness at an alarming rate, but Family Promise has a solution- Our Partners In Housing Program. To date, Family Promise has housed over 80 families in our Partners In Housing (PIH) Program.
